Dish Network Installation - How to install Dish Network

With the purchase of a Dish Network System or when you commit to 12 months of programming, free equipment, free professional installation of a dish and up to four receivers in four different rooms are provided by most retailers.

You can have up to 6 receivers on one account. If you have more than 6 you will need another account built.

The dish can be placed indoors, pointing through most glass windows, as long as the setting gives a clear view of the southern sky. Also, you need to get permission from your landlord if you are renting.

Traditional DISH 500 Installation using two Dual LNBF's, two SW21s for two receivers
This installation is composed of equipment shipped with DISH 500 systems until the end of February 2000. It uses 2 Dual LNBFs, 2 SW21 switches, and requires each LNBF to have one output routed to 1 switch.

Each switch then has one output to a receiver, allowing that receiver to display programming transmitted from satellites at 119 and 110.

DISH 500 Twin Installation for two receivers
Installation using a Twin LNBF allows programming from 2 satellite locations (119 and 110 only) and connection of up to 2 receivers as shown here.

The Twin LNBF is the functional equivalent of 2 Dual LNBFs and 2 SW21 switches integrated in a single LNBF. The advantage of the Twin LNBF consists in a typically quicker, easier and cleaner installation than using separate components.

Be sure to use a grounding block as shown. If peaking signal strength using a powered meter, output A provides signal off 119, and output B provides signal off 110. If peaking signal strength using the receiver’s signal strength meter, output port A or output port B can be used.

DISH 500 Twin and DISH 300 with Dual LNBF, and SW21s for a two receivers, 3 satellites location installation
This installation method supports up to two receivers and provides programming from 3 satellite locations. Two SW21 switches are used to route the signals rather than the SW64 switch traditionally required to receive programming from 3 satellites.

This setup shows a DISH 500 which “looks” at 119 and 110 satellite orbital locations and a second DISH 300 that “looks” at other locations such as 61.5. If connection of 3 to 4 receivers is required, a SW64 switch and two conventional dual LNBF’s must be used (not a twin LNBF).

Note: this installation method can only be used with EchoStar model 2700, 3700, 3800, 4700, and 6000 receivers and their JVC or Philips model equivalents. DishPlayer, Model 5000, and the JVC DSR-100 will be added to this list late 2nd quarter 2000.

Using this installation configuration, support for 2 or 3 satellite positions and up to 8 receivers is achieved. Equipment required to perform this installation includes two SW 64 switches, six satellite grade 2 way splitters with one DC block output, and three “feed through loads” (these are NOT in line amplifiers).

Conventional dual LNBF’s are required in this installation, do not use the Twin LNBF. Note: All splitters used in satellite TV setups must be rated for satellite reception and are typically labeled as being for “satellite” or specified 950MHz – 2150 MHz.

TV splitters or those rated for 54MHz – 806 MHz cannot be used. It is recommended to have a Professional installation of this configuration. Feed through loads will be available through DISH Network dealers late May 2000.
